Artists' Projects:
Mitra Memarzia : The Unwanted Gift Shop18 January - 18 April 2010

Free
Visit artist Mitra Memarzia at The Unwanted Gift Shop and bring along your jumpers, kitsch ornaments and useless gadgets.
The Unwanted Gift Shop will be opening its doors on 18 January 2010 but lacklustre Christmas gifts can be brought to the gallery from Monday 28 December 2009 onwards. (Please leave your 'gift's at the gallery's reception desk).
Your final chance to submit your unwanted gifts is Saturday 13 March 2010.
Mitra Memarzia will transform the Artists’ Studio at the gallery into a gift shop where unwanted items will be celebrated and given a new lease of life. During the course of her three month residency, she will invite visitors to question and participate in the role of gift exchange.
“The Unwanted Gift shop will playfully explore the values we place upon objects which we deem as unwanted and the transformative nature of art. An old jumper may be transformed into something beautiful and valuable, blurring the boundaries between the exchange of gifts as ideas and using imagination and conversation as currency “(Mitra Memarzia, 2009).
